Hawks down Red Hornets 57-47

HAMPTON - A quick start propelled the Hampton Hawks girls basketball team to a 57-47 win over the Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets Tuesday night.

Hampton jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and was able to extend the cushion to 25-14 at the end of the first 16 minutes.

The second half was won by the Red Hornets 33-32, but that was far short of cutting into the Hawks’ first half advantage.

Hampton was led in scoring by Tristin Mason with 19 points. With 10 rebounds and eight steals she was one of two Hawks to finish with a double-double.

Hawk senior Brittany Dose put up 14 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out seven assists and added four steals to her night’s work. Also in double figures was Cami Roehrs with 11 and Haley Schulze added nine.

Heartland Lutheran was paced by Bethany Hollman with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Rochelle Scheer added 11 points, Sydney Schmitt had nine points and three rebounds, while Justine Bader had seven points and two boards.
