Dittmer takes her softball skills to the Raiders

POLK — On the mound this past season for Cross County/High Plains softball, senior Shelbi Dittmer was the team’s workhorse, throwing better than 168 innings on the hill.

Last week Dittmer decided that joining the Central Community College Raiders was the right decision for her at this time and she inked her letter of intent to join head coach Jack Gutierrez and his team next fall.

Dittmer said staying close to home and starting out on the smaller side of the college scene all played a part in her decision.

“Well, I wanted to start small and then work my way to a bigger school and going to CCC also gives me the opportunity to play softball,” said Dittmer. “Also staying close to home played a big role because it will be close for my family to come watch me play.”

Her first three years she pitched for the High Plains Storm, however in 2012 Cross County and High Plains decided to co-op and together finished the 2012 season with a 14-14 record.

The High Plains senior said other schools she considered included Concordia, Midland and Hastings. When asked if she figures into next year plans and being able to contribute immediately she said, “I hope so.”

Dittmer is also on the High Plains Storm’s basketball team this year. To get ready for her first year at CCC she will be playing softball throughout the summer.

“I will go to CCC, August of this year and over the summer I will be playing summer softball with the Central City Xplosion,” Dittmer said.

The current CCC Raider softball roster includes Mariah Bigelow of Fillmore Central and Lindsey Larson of Cross County.
